Founded in 1954, Chief Construction Company was the initial operation of Chief Industries, Inc. Today, the company is a design/build general contractor with offices in Grand Island and Kearney, Nebraska, and offers complete turnkey construction services for a wide variety of building applications. The division features in-house engineering and architectural design, as well as professional consultants and field operations supervision.

 

Duties:
Responsible for management of a complete construction project from beginning to end, from surveying and underground utilities to final landscaping. In addition to all foreman responsibilities, has complete project control and financial responsibility. Must be willing to travel overnight and be gone up to 50% of the time.

* Capable of performing all requirements and responsibilities of all positions supervised from laborer to lead person.

*Ensure that all scheduling is done on projects and jobs are kept current; maintain all change orders and fill out daily log book.

*Verify all time cards for assigned employees.

*Be the connecting link between customer, owner, laborer, utility, sub-contractors, lead persons, and Chief Construction management on construction schedules, problems, or other significant matter.

*Keep tabs on job costs throughout project, informing project manager on potential savings or overruns.

*Purchase raw materials at best price ! and delivery for the job.

* Ensure that all equipment is ready for use and in safe operating condition.

*Ensure that all sub-contractors are on schedule and have current plans.

*Overlay drawings from site plan to mechanical, and progress job in an orderly procedure.

*Conduct regular safety inspections and maintain a safe work site for employees, sub-contractors, and the public.

*Assign, direct, and review the work of subordinate employees. Uphold company policies and procedures in employment relations. Make recommendations for wage review, hiring, and discipline employees as necessary.

*Keep current on changing construction methods and offer ideas for operating improvements.

*Computer literacy- using computers effectively and efficiently in the working environment.

*Communication-have good written, verbal, and listening skills.

*Cooperation/teamwork/attitude- interact well with and assist others; get along with coworkers and supervisors; be willing to accept assignments, criticism, etc.

* Be open to change/flexibility-willing to accept new duties and responsibility; respond well to sudden changes (i.e. working hours fluctuating according to production); willing to help where needed most, cross-train.

*Be punctual and consistent in being on the job.

*Be available for and willing to work overtime.

*Follow through on assignments to completion.

*Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner, utilizing required safety equipment.

*Keep work area neat and orderly.

*Report unsafe conditions and injuries to supervisors

 

Qualifications:
Requires knowledge of construction management methods generally gained through an equivalent college level degree combined with 5-7 years experience in construction project planning, estimating, and/or supervision.
